Scott set for England debut

Alex Scott is on the verge of making his England debut in the forthcoming World Cup friendlies in the United States. Scott, along with Rio Ngumoha, Josh King, Jason Steele, and Ethan Nwaneri, has travelled to Florida as a supplementary member of the England squad for their preparation camp.

They are awaiting the arrivals of Arsenal quartet Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, and Noni Madueke, as well as Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who are set to join the squad after their European finals commitments. Henderson is expected to arrive within the next 24 hours, with the other four players due to report for duty over the weekend.

The five additional squad selections, despite not being picked in Tuchel's full squad for the World Cup, are eligible to play in the friendlies against New Zealand and Costa Rica. Scott was named in Tuchel's provisional 55-man squad, which means he could still break into the full World Cup squad if injuries occur.

With this in mind, the 22-year-old has a strong chance of making his international debut in one of the upcoming friendlies before heading off for his summer break. Scott earned his senior first call-up for the November matches against Serbia and Albania but did not make an appearance. Tuchel then left Scott out of the squad to face Japan and Uruguay in March before omitting him from his final 26-man World Cup party.

Tuchel explained why he decided to bring five extra players to the US for their pre-tournament camp, saying he was impressed by Scott's reaction to being left out of the initial squad. Tuchel said Scott showed outstanding commitment and spirit, and he is delighted to have him in the pre-camp. Tuchel noted that Scott's inclusion was a close call, but the midfielder's character and wish to be part of the team made it an easy decision.
