Andoni Iraola has taken the reins as Liverpool's new head coach, signing a two-year contract. His appointment was confirmed just six days after Arne Slot's dismissal.

Liverpool acted swiftly to bring in Iraola, who previously worked with Richard Hughes at Bournemouth, after pinpointing him as the perfect fit for their desired brand of football. Milan, Bayer Leverkusen and Crystal Palace were also keen on the Basque coach, but Iraola was always Liverpool's top choice and the only candidate approached about the role. Other coaches, such as Stuttgart's Sebastian Hoeness and Lens's Pierre Sage, were considered but Iraola was the standout option
