Fifa to boost AI use at World Cup

June 5, 2026 · 16:00 1 min read 0 views
Fifa is set to ramp up its use of artificial intelligence at the World Cup to reduce the amount of abusive messages players and teams see on social media. World football's governing body introduced a social media protection service following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and is now offering its moderation tool for free to all football associations at the 2026 tournament, which kicks off next Thursday. The English FA has yet to decide whether it will take up the offer.

Fifa's move comes as part of its efforts to shield players from online abuse, with the social media protection service being made available to all participating teams at the 2026 World Cup.
